Getting Started with Gallipoli
Your first-hour checklist for BlackMill’s Ottoman Front FPS — before you hit the beach.
Gallipoli is the fourth WW1 Game Series shooter from BlackMill Games, following Verdun, Tannenberg, and Isonzo. It launches August 20, 2026 on Steam (app 3065940), Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with full crossplay. Expect ~$29.99 pricing with a launch discount called out in press coverage — always confirm your regional store page. This getting-started guide is the onboarding path for new players and series veterans who need the Gallipoli-specific changes in one place.
What kind of game is this?
Gallipoli is a hardcore 25v25 multiplayer FPS (fifty players total) built around objective sectors, not deathmatch scoreboards. Gunfights are largely one-shot-one-kill at combat ranges. You pick from ten historic classes and more than fifty weapons, then fight as British Empire / ANZAC attackers or Ottoman defenders across peninsula beaches, desert stretches, and Mesopotamian streets such as Kut Al Amara.
Bots can fill empty slots in public and custom matches, so lobbies stay playable even when human counts dip. Treat bots as placeholders, not as an excuse to ignore squad roles — human Stretcher Bearers and Officers still decide real pushes.
Your first session checklist
- Wishlist / pre-purchase on your storefront and confirm crossplay friends can party across PC and console. Details live in Crossplay.
- Bind comfort keys before a live Expedition. Stance sprint, bayonet charge, ping, and give-up-while-downed should feel natural. See Controls.
- Join a squad with a clear type, not a random leftover slot. Squad type changes class availability and Officer call-ins — covered in Squad Call-Ins.
- Learn Expedition win conditions before you chase sniper duels. Tickets, HQ captures, and secondary objectives are explained in Expedition Mode.
- Practice beach discipline on Anzac Cove and Cape Helles / SS River Clyde scenarios via Beach Landings. Open sand punishes ego peeks.
Classes to understand early
You do not need every class on day one, but you should recognize these roles when the spawn menu opens:
- Officer — leadership, coordination, and off-map call-ins tied to squad type. Ping often; do not treat the role as a free sniper rifle.
- Light Machine Gunner — the Assault-like flexible fighter for aggressive pushes when you need automatic pressure without full HMG deployment.
- Heavy Machine Gunner — devastating when deployed via the build/place flow. Immobile power; protect flanks or die staring at sand.
- Sniper — long sightlines on beaches and desert ridges. One miss can cost the lane if you telegraph the glint of your position.
- Stretcher Bearer — the medic spine. Any class can revive, but this role heals faster and supports downed teammates under fire.
- Ammo Bearer — keeps rifles and machine guns fed when fights stall. Quiet MVP of long defenses.
- Bomber — explosives for clearing nests and helping secure objectives that require demolition steps.
Pick a support or flexible combat role for your first ten matches. Lone-wolf Sniper sessions teach map sightlines, but they will not teach Expedition momentum.
Movement and combat habits that save lives
Gallipoli overhauls movement relative to older series entries. You can sprint while crouched or prone, which matters in shallow trench lines and beach scrapes. Stamina is less binary: you can still move at a reduced sprint when empty, and a full bar gives a short faster burst for charges or diving to cover. Bayonet charge (with bayonet fitted or melee ready) is a loud, committed speed burst — use it to finish a suppressed enemy or clear a doorway, not as your primary approach across open beach.
The ping system is not optional fluff. Mixed crossplay lobbies need visual callouts for machine-gun nests, revive spots, and HQ approaches. Spam less, mark better.
When you are downed, do not instantly rage-respawn if a Stretcher Bearer is near. If nobody can reach you, previews confirm you can give up (PC players have used F in hands-on coverage) and return to a spawn instead of waiting out a hopeless bleed. Ticket economy still matters — dying on purpose in a bad lane can hurt attackers more than waiting three seconds for a revive.
Suppression is real. Near-miss fire slows reloads and can jam weapons. If a Maxim owns your dune, change angle or wait for smoke and call-ins instead of reloading in the open.
How to think about objectives on day one
In Expedition, attackers need sector progress — typically by securing the HQ — while secondary points unlock better spawns and deny defender toys such as nests or slingshot artillery. Captures are not always “stand in the circle.” Securing often means planting explosives or demolishing a structure, sometimes with a short interactive speed-up. Bombers and coordinated Officers shine here. Defenders win by draining attacker tickets and resetting every push.
Attackers can claw tickets back through high elimination milestones (previews cite thresholds such as fifty defender kills) or by destroying defender spawns. That means a skilled defense can still bleed out if they feed easy kills — and a messy attack can recover if they play the ticket economy, not just the kill feed.
Practice plan before (and after) August 20, 2026
- Warm-up: movement drills — crouch sprint between cover, prone reposition, one bayonet charge into a bot, then reset.
- Role drill: two matches as Ammo Bearer or Stretcher Bearer so you learn where fights stall.
- Objective drill: ignore KD; count successful HQ secures and revive trades.
- Landing drill: watch the release trailer above, then apply beach timing tips from Beach Landings.
- Party drill: invite one console friend and one PC friend using Crossplay so launch night is not your first mixed lobby.
Mindset for a fan community
This wiki is unofficial. We will not invent secret OP loadouts or fake patch IDs. Use official trailers and store pages for purchase decisions, then use these guides for tactics. If you loved Isonzo’s teamwork culture, Gallipoli doubles down: squad types, call-ins, pings, and medic/ammo roles make selfish play obvious on the scoreboard that matters — sectors held or lost.
When you finish this page, jump to Expedition Mode for win-condition depth, then Squad Call-Ins so your Officer kit is not wasted. Keep Controls open while you rebind. The Ottoman Front rewards patience, angles, and squad glue — not slide-cancel fantasy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
When does Gallipoli release?
August 20, 2026 on Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, PS5, and Xbox Series with full crossplay from day one.
Is Gallipoli beginner-friendly if I never played Verdun or Isonzo?
Yes, but expect a learning curve. Start in support roles, learn Expedition tickets and HQ captures, and use bots as practice partners while you learn maps.
Which class should I pick first?
Light Machine Gunner for flexible combat, or Stretcher Bearer / Ammo Bearer if you want to learn positioning without relying on perfect aim.
Can I play if servers are quiet?
Bots can fill empty slots in public and custom matches, so you can still run Expedition scenarios while the player base grows.
Where do I learn beach assault specifics?
Read Beach Landings after this page — Anzac Cove and Cape Helles need different timing than inland desert fights.
