Gallipoli Engineer Class Guide
Fortify the line or cut it open — Gallipoli’s construction class with two honest kits.
Engineer returns from Isonzo with a cleaner kit split and a bigger job on the Ottoman Fronts. Beaches have almost no natural furniture. Ctesiphon’s ruins lie, then dump you into open sand. Kut’s streets want barricades in doorways that did not exist ten seconds ago. BlackMill’s official classes blog used the Ottoman Engineer as the worked example, so this page starts from that table rather than from guesswork. Two kits, a class perk, weight and ammo counts, and a construction identity that is not “the guy who accidentally brought a shovel.”
If you have not read the roster yet, start with Classes Overview. If you want the moving-depot counterpart, that is Ammo Bearer.
Class perk: Construction Training
The Ottoman example lists Construction Training: faster construction and sabotage. That is the entire class thesis. You build and you unbuild quicker than a Rifleman fumbling the same marker. Developer interviews also talked about constructing objectives together as part of Expedition’s texture — not every wall is pre-placed. When a Headquarters secure needs a demolished piece or a nest needs sandbags before the next wave, the Engineer is supposed to be there already, not jogging from the River Clyde.
Faster sabotage means the offensive kit is not a meme. Cutting enemy wire, spotting placed equipment, and collapsing a defender toy can be the difference between a stalled Anzac exit and a sector that actually moves. Read Expedition Mode so you sabotage the thing that unlocks the HQ, not a random crate in the wrong courtyard.
Saboteur Kit — “Seek and destroy!”
Official Ottoman Saboteur loadout language:
- Perk-style tool: Barbed Wire Spool that automatically spots nearby enemy equipment
- Weight: Light
- Ammo: Medium
- Equipment: sapper spade, tourniquet, water bottle, barbed wire
- Primaries (choose one): FN1903, C96, S&W No.3 — pistol-class tools that keep you light
- Secondaries: Tufenjieff or Type 2 Grenade
This is the raid kit. You are not the sandbag cathedral. You are the person who finds the hidden Maxim, marks it, and either wires a denial or grenades the crew. The water bottle is stamina insurance for crouch-sprinting between cover — Gallipoli’s movement blog made stamina drain on sprint, melee, jump, and vault, while still letting you act while exhausted. A light Engineer with a bottle can actually finish a sabotage instead of collapsing in the open.
Play Saboteur when:
- Attackers need the Cape Helles castle doorway opened, not another static nest. Cape Helles.
- Ctesiphon’s arch is stuffed with defender toys and someone has to walk in first. Ctesiphon.
- Kut interiors are full of placed crates and you can spot them before the Bomber stack eats a surprise.
Do not play Saboteur as a second Sniper. Your pistols exist so you can move. If you wanted a battle rifle, pick Frontline Builder or go Rifleman via the overview.
Frontline Builder — “Fortify the line!”
Official Ottoman Frontline Builder language:
- Tool: Engineer Backpack with an extra construction marker
- Weight: Medium
- Ammo: Medium
- Equipment: sapper spade, tourniquet, sandbags, barbed wire
- Primaries: M1905, Peabody 1874/12, Peabody 1874, FN1903 — rifles you can actually hold a line with
- Secondaries: Tufenjieff, Type 2 Grenade, or Stielhandgranate
This is the defensive and “we are staying here” kit. Extra construction markers mean you can seed a nest for a Heavy Machine Gunner and still have a second piece for the revive lane. Sandbags on Anzac’s first ridge or Ctesiphon’s Gurkha Mound are not cosmetics; they are the only reason a Stretcher Bearer can drag someone without a full-body silhouette.
Play Frontline Builder when:
- You are defending a sector you intend to keep for more than one death.
- Your squad already has a Bomber and needs furniture, not more grenades.
- The Support Objective in Expedition needs a gun pit that survives the first recapture attempt.
British kits are described as mirrored in role even when the guns change. Do not wait for an Ottoman-only identity. The tasks — seek-and-destroy versus fortify — are the same on both factions.
Map notes
Landings. Build off the beach. A sandbag on V Beach sand is a gravestone. A sandbag behind the first castle wall or ravine lip is a spawn. Beach landings.
Ctesiphon. The arch funnels want wire on the shoulders, not in the postcard centre where everyone already looks. The split HQ on the Tigris needs a marker on the far bank before the plant starts.
Kut. Short wire in doorways beats long pretty barricades in the bazaar street that a Lewis gun already owns. Let Bombers have the rooms; you own the thresholds.
Teamwork without being a bottleneck
Engineers die when they build in the open during a firefight. Pre-place on the quiet side of a reset, then shoot. If an Officer calls a push, your job is the lane furniture before the ping, not during the plant animation. Coordinate with Ammo Bearer so the nest you just built is not dry. Coordinate with Stretcher Bearer so the sandbag you placed is actually a revive pocket and not a sniper’s picture frame.
Use Squad Call-Ins so you do not wire a path the artillery is about to delete.
Practice
In bots & practice, build one nest, wire one approach, then sabotage a dummy piece under fire. If you cannot finish a marker without standing up, you are not ready for live Ctesiphon. Gallipoli’s construction is a combat action, not a menu.
Engineer is how the Ottoman Front gets cover that the terrain refused to give you. Pick a kit, pick a job, and stop treating the spade as flavour text.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does Gallipoli have an Engineer class?
Yes. Engineer returns from Isonzo with two kits. BlackMill’s classes blog used the Ottoman Engineer as the detailed example: Saboteur and Frontline Builder.
What does Construction Training do?
The example perk is faster construction and sabotage, which is the class’s identity on beaches and desert maps with little natural cover.
Should I take Saboteur or Frontline Builder?
Saboteur is the light, spotting, seek-and-destroy kit. Frontline Builder is the rifle-and-sandbag kit for a line you intend to hold.
Are British Engineer kits different?
Roles are mirrored between factions; weapons change. Learn the two tasks first, then pick guns that match your faction’s arsenal.
